Major investment in the charging stations network

On January 23rd, at the Montreal Auto Show, Canada's Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna made an announcement that will please drivers of electric vehicles, or those who plan to get one in 2019. 

The minister announced that Ottawa would invest $ 5 million to help Hydro-Québec accelerate the development of the charging station network throughout the province. 

"Investments in green infrastructure will help Canadian drivers move faster and greener. In collaboration with Hydro-Québec, the government is working to build the largest electric charging circuit in Canada to ensure that Canadians have access to green and affordable solutions", the minister said. 

These amounts will be used to finance the installation of a hundred rapid charging stations in Quebec. The three projects selected are for the installation of 10 charging superstations of four terminals, as well as the deployment of 40 fast charging stations on the North Shore and 20 fast charging stations on the South Shore of the St. Lawrence River. 

By the end of spring 2019, new charging stations for the Circuit électrique will be installed in the surrounding areas, like Beaconsfield, Kirkland and Beauharnois. 

There are currently nearly 40,000 electric vehicles registered in Quebec and the Electric Circuit offers more than 1,700 terminals, including 168 fast charging stations. Within ten years, there will be 1,600 new speed kiosks in Quebec.
